John 7:37-39, Psalm 42:1-2, John 4:5-6

Jesus is the Living Water. The living water that comes from Christ refreshes us. Water is necessary for physical life and Jesus is necessary for spiritual life. In John 7, on the last day of the feast of the tabernacles, Jesus cried out to the people “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” The feast is one that lasts for 7 days and commemorates the 7 days that the Israelites lived in tents while fleeing Egypt. During the festival, priests would go down to the pool of Siloam every day with a golden jug, fill it with water and pour the water on the side of the altar in the temple while the people sang songs. On the 8th and final day of the feast, this ritual stops and everyone is silent, thinking about what the Lord has done. This is the day that Jesus chose to tell the people that if they believe in Him, rivers of living water will flow from their belly. Jesus, the living water is greater than the water from Siloam and any physical water we can drink! In John 4, Jesus also spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, telling her that anyone who drinks the water from the well will be thirsty again, but those who drink from the water He gives will never be thirsty. Jesus will stay in us and refresh us!
