John 4:4-15, John 7:37-38



John 4 discusses the events that took place between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. Jesus had to travel from Judea to Galilee but to get to Galilee, He had to go through Samaria. At this time, because of the tension between the Jews and the Samaritans, the Jews would go around the banks of the river Jordan to avoid having to go through Samaria, but Jesus made it a point to go through Samaria. Jesus had a destiny appointment there and going through Samaria was connected to the destiny of people. Jesus’ mission was to save all people, including the Samaritans. When Jesus got to the well and asked the Samaritan woman for a drink, she was apprehensive as Samaritans and Jews had no dealings with each other. Jesus explained to her that He could give her living water that causes all who drink it to never thirst again. This water would become a fountain springing up into everlasting life. In this woman’s darkest moment, Jesus came to visit her unexpectedly and offer her eternal life. May we drink the living water Jesus has given us!
