About Dave Lawn


Dave Lawn joined the Arizona baseball program as an assistant coach on July 9, 2015. He was retained by newly-hired head coach Chip Hale on July 5, 2021 and promoted to the role of associate head coach on July 14. He recently finished his six season with the Wildcats in June 2021.


Lawn no stranger to the Pac-12 Conference. After beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Nevada in 1988, Lawn went on to spend 10 seasons at California (1991-2000) and seven at USC (2001-07). He boasts a total of 32 years of collegiate coaching experience.



Under Lawn’s guidance, 23 players have gone on to play Major League Baseball, including Mark Prior, the 2001 Golden Spikes Award winner from USC. Lawn’s teams have four times earned trips to the College World Series, four times played in the NCAA Super Regionals and eight times earned NCAA Regional berths. Additionally, his clubs have won three Pac-12 Championships, one Big West title and one Mountain West regular season championship.


Dave Lawn Coaching Highlights



  • 24 seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I level, including 22 seasons in the Pac-10/12

  • Eight NCAA Regional appearances, four NCAA Super Regionals, and four College World Series berths

  • Coached 23 players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball

  • Developed Mark Prior, the 2001 Golden Spikes Award winner from USC

  • Worked with three Pac-10/12 Pitchers of the Year: Mark Prior in 2001, Ian Kennedy in 2006, and Bobby Kahlon in 1994

  • Helped coach his teams to three Pac-12 championships, one Big West championship, and one Mountain West regular season championship
