The federal government has announced a $50 million boost to the gas industry, saying infrastructure and technology have to be boosted to stop power prices rising.

The government’s continuing to pursue its controversial plan for a “gas-fired recovery” from the COVID-19 crisis. That’s despite warnings from the International Energy Agency that no new coal plants or oil and gas fields can be developed if the world is to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rises to 1.5 degrees.

Meanwhile, the government wants to attract private investment to help build massive offshore wind farms that could power a manufacturing resurgence, as well as lower-emission energy.Today on Please Explain, climate and energy correspondent Mike Foley joins Bianca Hall to discuss the government's commitments to gas and wind projects.
