New polling from Resolve Strategic exclusively for our mastheads has revealed more than half of voters expect their income to fall in real terms this year.

The polling, which showed just 12 per cent of voters expect their personal income will increase above the rate of inflation, sets up an election fight over the cost of living. Outside parliament, the government’s slow response to issues that impact women like equality and domestic violence has done little to change the perception.

Today on Please Explain, executive editor Tory Maguire joins Nathaneal Cooper to look at the latest Resolve Strategic polling and the disquiet around the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Also today, we launch a new segment for Please Explain. Europe faces its greatest geo-political crisis since the second world war as Russian president Vladimir Putin sends troops into parts of Eastern Ukraine. Each day we will speak to our experts around the globe about the crisis in Ukraine and bring it directly to our listeners on Please Explain.
