SEG3: Diver’s Alert Network: Project on Harvesting Divers. Eric Douglass tells us of a DAN study of the plight of the Miskito Indian harvesting divers, who risk their lives every day just to make a living. Diving up to 12 times a day for a two-week period, often with no access to knowledge of safe diving practices, harvesting divers experience a higher-than-average rate of decompression illness (DCI), some cases of which are so severe that divers are left permanently disabled or die.
