A homicide is a traumatic event that leaves family members and close friends of the victim in a state of shock and uncertainty over the violent and unexpected loss. Homicide Support Groups are a joint collaboration among homicide detectives, victim advocates, district attorneys, and victim services providers who work together to better inform and provide services to the victims left behind from a violent crime. HSGs have been shown to improve outcomes of homicide investigations, increase clearance rates, and build better police-community relations and greater witness cooperation in the prosecution of homicides. On this episode of PSN Victim Service Spotlights, we sit down with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to hear about their HSG program and their lessons learned.
