Clinical trials are underway to investigate the high incidence and severe consequences of chest infections in patients who’ve undergone upper abdominal surgery. And the trials point to the effectiveness of breathing exercises immediately post-operation, according to clinical lead physiotherapist Ianthe Boden of Launceston General Hospital in Tasmania.
