Industrial wastelands: tools for cultural innovation and driving forces for territorial development.

Speakers : Bertram Schultze (Baumwollspinnerei I DE) / Mykhailo Glubokyi (Izolyatsia I UA) / Stuba Nikula (Cable Factory I FI)
Moderation : Annette Wolfsberger (Sonic Acts I NL)

Over the past few years, there has been strong redevelopment of industrial areas transforming them into cultural spaces in a number of European countries. Some of the most well-known initiatives include La Belle de Mai in Marseille and La Tabacalera in Madrid. These places have revitalised the heritage of their city through culture and contribute to the development of the local artistic and cultural scene. Some initiatives go far beyond that. Cultural enterprise and gallery incubators, cultural event venues and education (collaborating with schools and universities), places for debate and social life and commercial areas, these renewed wastelands have become eco-systems for innovation. The European Lab has invited three Europeans involved in innovative cultural sites to present their project, strategies and views.
