This talk will be based on research conducted in Shanghai in April 2016 and in Beijing in January 2017. After an overview of the situation of Chinese LGBTQIA* individuals in cities and rural areas, it will focus on the institution of "xinghun" (fake marriages between women and men identifying as lesbian, gay or bi) and how the community has been using technology to facilitate them.
