He who laughs last...thinks slowest...

Start a shiur with a 'joke', says the Gemoro in Shabbos daf 30. As it is forbidden in this world to fill your mouths with laughter, you then need to get serious. So here goes...

Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death. Rode the six hundred...

...thousand...

Interesting number - 600,000. It comes up a number of times in our history (most ominously in terms of its multiple in the last century). 600,000 root souls of the Jewish nation. 600,000 letters in the Torah. The Torah, which is called - Oraysa - 'Light'. קודשא בריך הוא ואורייתא וישראל חד הוא - Hashem is One, with Torah/Light and Israel.

This Light Brigade of 600,000 had a happier ending - I guess they had The Shepherd of shepherds looking after them.  The one who gave the Torah - learned by the melodious voice of Yaakov the shepherd - through Moshe - the mouthpiece of Hashem. That is why we sing out at the Yam suf, because our mouths are filled with the laughter of the endgame.

He who laughs last...laughs loudest...
