I'm all for giving people another chance, a second bite of the cherry. But a second bite of the matzo? SInce when could I say, 'Sorry I missed your party. Can you do it again for me?' When it's gone, it's gone.

Yet, the men carrying Yosef's bones ask for a chance to get a second Pesach. A new law!...and it is granted. How? It seems that there is something about the concept of the Torah Sheba'al Peh, as opposed to the Written Law which allows for Chiddush - invention and innovation...and restarting.

And this is echoed in the same sedra later, when the people start missing Egypt. 'Thank you Mitzrayim for the fish and veg which you provided for us for free!' Have you ever heard of something so patently wrong on so many levels? They reject the Mon and ask for meat...they reject Moshe - who describes himself as a nursemaid (feeds on demand - Moshe was able to get Torah answers on demand too). 'Enough of the milk, we want the meat.' A fuller exposition is deserved, but suffice it to say that, at this stage, they are moving away from Moshe and feeding on demand, towards the possibility of change and independence with their inherent dangers, as well as the perks.

This is massive for us, when we begin to attempt to face our fears...and change...

Whilst the candle still burns (in a week which will contain the flame of Lag B'Omer), remember this...it's never too late to change...
