Qualifications for Elders


In this sermon, we take a look at the sixteen qualifications that Paul tells Titus to look for and they can be categories in 


1.  The vision I (v.5,9)


This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— if anyone is above reproach,




2. The vices to be Denounced



  • not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 


He must not be 



  • arrogant or 

  • quick-tempered or 

  • a drunkard or 

  • violent or 

  • greedy for gain, 


7 For an overseer, as God's steward,


2. The virtues that are Demanded 



  • the husband of one wife, and 

  • his children are believers and

  • must be above reproach. 

  • but hospitable, 

  • a lover of good, 

  • self-controlled, 

  • upright, 

  • holy, and 

  • disciplined. 

  • He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, 


3. The vision II (v.5,9) - what the apostle has in mind as the objective of his charge. 


so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
