Discussion in our Facebook group has been getting really good. Recently, the issue of accidental discharge has come up, so we wanted to remind everyone to take some extra time for safety. The bible has a lot to say about negligence and its connection with disobedience to God’s Law. When we fail to do the things we should, we open ourselves up to legal liability, and more importantly, the potential for injury to ourselves and others. Failing to act safely and responsibly is not loving your neighbor nor honoring God.

So when handling firearms, please remember:

  1. Always treat firearms as if they are loaded.

  2. Never point at anything you don’t want to kill.

  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until it’s time to shoot.

  4. Be sure of your target and what’s beyond.

  5. Don’t rely on the gun’s “safety.”

  6. If your gun fails to fire, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun.

  7. Inspect weapon for obstructions and defects.

  8. Always use the correct ammunition.
