God has called us to a higher place than what we are living. Many of us are settling for "pig slop" when God is offering us His very best. We want what we want when we want it. When we force life to conform to our wishes, wants, and whims, it pushes back with a vengeance. We usually miss out on what our heavenly Father wants for us. It is guaranteed that what He wants for us is so much better than what we "could ask or think." The prodigal son in the scripture "came to his senses" and came back to the Father. From a distance the Father saw His son and ran to him and invited him home again.
