Today I am extremely excited to have on a woman who is pushing the boundaries of what sustainable fashion can look like, having left a career in finance behind to start a company she believed needed to be the future of fashion. That would be Vanessa Borboni Hallik of the ethical luxury brand, Another Tomorrow.

We talk with Vanessa about her incredible journey starting Another Tomorrow in January 2018, while she was on a sabbatical from her former career in emerging markets finance. Taking time to learn about global issues she was both surprised and devastated by what she found in the apparel industry and its enormous impact on people, the environment, and animals. She made it a mission to start a fashion line doing things right and pushing boundaries on what would be possible within sustainability, and today I am thrilled to take you all on that journey with her. Now over to my conversation with the amazing Vanessa.

We also want to say a big thank you to Seela Activewear who has made today’s episode possible and who’s incredible plant based, luxury sportswear aligns very well with Vanessa’s conversation today that technology can truly be used for good and progress when it comes to the fashion industry.

Launched in 2020 by Ida Skarp in Zürich, Seela Studio encourages women to strengthen their bodies and minds with clean, plant based activewear products.Combining modern science with refined design, Seela develops thoughtful essentials for longevity that are at one with nature using an innovative, all plant based fabric.

Instead of using synthetic fibres which are produced from petroleum or gas, all Seela garments are made from castor oil, which is a multi-purpose vegetable oil that people have used for thousands of years for its natural health benefits, including its anti-inflammatory, bacteria-fighting and moisturising properties. What drives Seela is to create activewear that supports – rather than damages – the natural functions of your body and cares for the world in which we all enjoy our workouts. From limiting any chemical use to recycling water in their production process to choosing biodegradable materials, it’s all about what’s best for you and the planet.

On top of being one of the first plant based activewear companies, Seela are working with solar-powered factories, reusing water during the washing process, using a dyeing process with low water and energy consumption and sourcing and producing all materials – packaging included – from within Europe.
