Dr. Robert London has practiced psychiatry for nearly four decades. A longstanding thought-leader in cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnosis, and guided imagery, he developed and ran the short-term cognitive psychotherapy unit at NYU Langone Medical Center for 20 years.
Championing a message of hope, optimism and the belief that many who suffer from mental health conditions can achieve significant improvement or total relief without spending years in therapy, Dr. London is the thought leader and expert on the Learning, Philosophizing, and Action (LPA) technique. He developed this technique, which uses a straightforward, focused method that guides people to gain a new perspective on one or two main problems. This thoughtful interactive process walks people through how to deconstruct negative thoughts and behaviors, understand their origins, and unlearn and replace them with a new pattern of thoughts and beliefs that lead in a more positive, productive direction and change.

Dr. London has worked to destigmatize mental health and remove the shame and fear felt by many who seek assistance in conquering their fears and phobias, managing PTSD, OCD, and other anxiety disorders, overcoming Peter Pan complex and other personality disorders, and improving depression.

With a reputation for translating complex medical concepts into accessible health information for both general and mental health audiences, he authored “The Psychiatrist’s Toolbox,” a nationally-distributed monthly column in Clinical Psychiatry News, where he’s also been a regular editorial contributor.

Dr. London hosted his own nationally syndicated consumer-oriented health care radio program in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he created “Evening with Doctors,” a three-hour town hall-style meeting geared toward nonmedical audiences, which was well-documented in the New York Times and forerunner to the talk show, The Doctors.

He has written hundreds of articles on a wide range of topics including anxiety disorders, PTSD, depression, eastern/western psychotherapies, and panic disorders and phobias for a variety of publications including Clinical Psychiatry News, New York State Journal of Medicine, Boulevard Magazine, On the Avenue, Women’s Health and Glamour.

A media veteran, Dr. London has shared his expertise on television and radio shows including Good Morning America, Live at Five, Eyewitness News, Good Day New York and in newspapers including The New York Times, Daily News, New York Post, Newsday, Business Week, The Los Angeles Times, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Bottom Line Health, and in Forbes magazine.
