Australia will export its first shipment of liquefied hydrogen to Japan under a pilot program the Federal Government hopes will lead to the creation of a new energy export industry.

The hydrogen is currently being made with coal, but Angus Taylor, Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction, says the trade will be "crucial" in bringing down emissions globally.
