Australia's economic recovery will hinge on households and businesses spending some of the $370 billion in savings they've socked away during the COVID pandemic.

It's the largest quarterly contraction in 50 years, but still lower than Treasury and market expectations, the National Accounts reveal the economy shrank by 1.9% in the September quarter due to the Delta lockdowns in south eastern Australia.
