Conversion therapy will become a crime punishable by up to five years in prison, under legislation introduced to Parliament today.
It involves attempting to change a person's sexual orientation - which Justice Minister Kris Faafoi says doesn't work and causes an immense amount of harm.
The Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill would cover religious groups, but they'll still be able to freely express their beliefs.
