An 84-year-old Northland woman who is raising her teenage grandsons let out a little 'woop' when she heard about today's benefit boosts.
The government has announced all main benefits will jump by $20 a week from July, with some increasing by up to $55 by April next year.
It comes after years of campaigning from community groups to raise baseline benefits.
And while they're pleased with today's announcements, they're still hopeful of more money for those doing it toughest.
Nita Blake-Persen reports.
