The attacks on 9/11 permanently altered the New York City skyline and remains a painful scar on the nation's collective consciousness and changed the way we lived and travelled.
Much has changed over the past two decades.
But survivors say the memories of that day back in 2001 remains strong, as does the need to honor those who lost their lives.
William Denselow reports from New York.
