Olaf Scholz is set to be sworn in as the German chancellor on Wednesday, officially putting an end to Angela Merkel's sixteen years in office.
Already, the incoming chancellor has said he wants the European Union to be stronger.
He has signed a three-party coalition agreement and along with his Cabinet members will take office after a vote and swearing-in ceremony in the German parliament.
German correspondent Thomas Sparrow spoke to Corin Dann.
