Staff at Waitomo's Glowworm Caves hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for one of the country's best-known tourist destinations.
The opening of the trans-Tasman bubble three weeks ago has had only a modest impact on numbers entering the caves and bolstering a business that suffered a hammer blow during last year's Covid-19 lockdown.
It has now launched a scheme in which an Australian visitor can enter for free if they accompany a paying, New Zealand adult.
