The Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Damien O'Connor are in mid-Canterbury to survey the damage from three days of torrential rain.
The Government has made an initial contribution of $100,000 towards flood relief.
The National Party has written to the minister asking him to declare an adverse event in Canterbury, which would unlock funding support for farmers.
O'Connor spoke to Susie Ferguson.
