It's been a grueling time for farmers across Canterbury.
As many across the region hunkered down at home, farmers forged out in the rain to check on their livestock and fields.
Between 300 to 400 millimetres of rainfall have fallen about the High Country over the past 24-hours.
The weather was more severe than was predicted, and several farmers had to be rescued from floodwaters after getting into difficulty trying to reach their stock.
One of those badly hit is the owner of the 3800 hectare Mt Somers Station farm, David Acland.
He spoke to Corin Dann.
