People are waking up this morning at Hakatere Marae on the outskirts of Ashburton, after being evacuated from their homes last night.
Across the region, 30 houses were evacuated in Springfield, in Selwyn District, but many were able to stay with families and friends.
In Geraldine, residents of a small rest home were moved as a precaution, and another twenty homes were evacuated in rural Ashburton.
Hakatere Marae opened its doors yesterday to house evacuees from the flooding, providing them with shelter and food.
