There were around 80 flood related call outs in the Manawatu town yesterday evening.
Fire and Emergency says some of the calls were quite serious and a number of homes were evacuated.
It was a similar story in the South Island, parts of North Canterbury had surface flooding and some homes were impacted.
Some suburbs around the Heathcote and Avon River also went underwater flooding some homes and roads.
It was a more serious situation in the Banks Peninsula where homes in Le Bons Bay were evacuated after the stream burst taking out some of the side of the hill.
RNZ reporter Conan Young spoke to Corin Dann from next to Avon River in Christchurch.
