The Climate Commission has recommended iwi, hap? and M?ori determine their own contribution to reducing national emissions - and set their own targets - as part of the newly released report laying out how the country can become carbon neutral by 2050.
The Commission wants government to work with iwi and M?ori representatives to create an emissions profile for each takiw? and how that contributes to national emissions.
But there is concern that the policy could lead to some emissions being identiified as "M?ori created."
Reporter Meriana Johnsen spoke with India Logan-Riley of the Indigenous youth climate change group, Te Ara Whatu.
