St John crews in Auckland now have to wear full personal protective gear to every callout.
This means gowns, eye protection, gloves and N95 masks which they have to change after each patient.
As of yesterday St John had 93 staff in self isolation because they are a close contact of someone with Covid-19.
The emergency service says most of these workers were stood down because patients gave inaccurate answers to covid screening questions.
Sam Olley reports.
