Australian health officials are worried about the greater proportion of young people in hospital than in previous Covid-19 outbreaks.
Of the 440 active cases in Victoria, 103 - or nearly a quarter - are children younger than nine.
In New South Wales, a record number of 830 community cases were reported yesterday - up from 825 the day before.
Three more people have died from the virus, bringing the state's death toll from the current outbreak, which began in mid-June, to 71.
ABC reporter Lara Hyams spoke to Susie Ferguson.
