There's a call to bring down barriers preventing intensive care nurses from coming into the country and helping our ongoing Covid-19 response.
Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society spokesperson Dr Andrew Stapleton says Covid-19 restrictions are making those rolls hard to fill and the immigration process needs to streamlined.
Dr Stapleton also said New Zealand was currently short around 100 full time equivalent ICU nurses.
He said with the three to six month timeframe in getting healthcare workers into the country, sorting the immigration processes needs to be a priority.
