The rural advocacy group Federated Farmers is praising Immigration New Zealand's plans for a residency visa pathway for approximately 9,000 agricultural workers.
Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi introduced the 2021 Resident Visa on Thursday morning, a one-off resident visa for approximately 165,000 migrants currently living in New Zealand.
We'll be speaking to the minister later on in the programme.
Migrants living in New Zealand have faced extended uncertainty due to their precarious immigration status and shuttered borders.
Faafoi says that the new policy will help migrants separated from families overseas, but Federated Farmers say that for many migrants, it comes too late.
Federated Farmers board member and dairy farmer Chris Lewis spoke to Corin Dann.
