Jacinda Ardern wants to clear the way for vaccinated and negative-tested Aucklanders to leave the region by Christmas and over summer.
The Prime Minister wants to set up a system at the region's boundaries that will enable tens of thousands of cars to pass through smoothly.
One option is that Aucklanders have an allocated time slot to leave the region over the summer holidays.
The scheme would have huge implications for Hospitality New Zealand.
