The Government is preparing for a more hands-off approach once Omicron cases in the community grow to their thousands.
A three phase plan has been announced.
In phase one, which we're in now, Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall says the stamp-it out approach will continue with intensive contract tracing.
Cases have to isolate for 14 days and contacts for 10 days.
The move to phase two will be triggered when and if the country edges towards a thousand daily cases - the focus then moving to slowing the spread.
Cases will also be sent a link to health advice, or contacted via phone when appropriate. In phase two the isolation period will drop to 10 days for cases and seven for contacts.
Critical workers can use rapid antigen tests to return to work if they are asymptomatic.
At phase three, Dr Verrall says there could be tens of thousands of cases.
Dr Verrall was unavailable to speak to Morning Report on Thursday.
Health Minister Andrew Little spoke to Susie Ferguson.
