Encouraging people to talk to their own doctors, and making the jab compulsory, has led to a big turnaround in the number of vaccinated port workers.
Just last month the Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said 44 percent of port workers had not had even a single dose.
Now 95 percent are fully vaccinated, in time for today's requirement for border workers to have had a shot if they want to work on the frontline.
The Maritime Union's national secretary Craig Harrison says there have been multiple reasons for the turnaround.
