An Auckland couple's illicit lockdown escape to a holiday home is being described by W?naka locals as selfish and inexcusable.
The 35-year-old man and his 26 year-old partner crossed Auckland's southern border using essential workers exemptions on Thursday.
They drove to Hamilton before catching a commercial flight to Queenstown via Wellington and renting a car to start their skiing holiday in W?naka.
But the police were tipped off and the couple were located in W?naka on Saturday afternoon.
Tess Brunton is in W?naka and filed this report.
