There's relief in W?naka after the Auckland couple who flouted lockdown rules announced they tested negative for Covid-19 before leaving and after returning to the city when their lockdown rule breach was discovered.
William Willis, a 35-year-old equestrian from Karaka, and his partner Hannah Rawnsley, a 26-year-old barrister from Pukekohe, were revealed last night as the pair who crossed the alert level 4 border from Auckland using essential worker exemptions and travelled to their holiday home in W?naka.
After their name suppression lapsed, the pair released a statement apologising for their actions, which they called "completely irresponsible and inexcusable".
As well as apologising to the W?naka community, Willis and Rawnsley said they had tested negative to Covid-19 before leaving Auckland and upon their return.
The town's deputy mayor Calum MacLeod breathed a sigh of relief at that news.
