US officials are in crisis talks after Kabul's airport was rocked by twin bomb blasts overnight.
At least 60 people have been killed and more than 140 injured.
The attacks come after numerous warnings by the US and its allies of a threat from the Islamic State group.
Thousands of people have been gathering outside the airport in recent days, desperate to board mercy flights by coalition military forces, and escape the Taliban.
Washington correspondent Simon Marks spoke to Morning Report.
