Iwi leaders are disappointed Hauturu/Little Barrier Island has been left out of the list of tipa - or scallop - fisheries closed for business.
Depleted fisheries in Northland, most of Coromandel and the Hauraki Gulf will soon be shut to allow them to recover, but Hauturu and the Colville Channel will remain open.
Scallop populations around the Hauraki Gulf have plummeted by 93 percent over the past decade.
Ngāti Manuhiri chief executive Nicola MacDonald spoke to Susie Ferguson.
