There were sighs of relief at the weekend as Chinese rocket debris plunging back to earth hit water rather than land.
It's only the beginning of a round of uncontrolled re-entries as China moves to build a permanent space station.
Duncan Steel is an astronomer, astrobiologist, former NASA scientist and author.
