As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues, pressure is mounting on New Zealand to adopt harsher sanctions against President Putin's regime.
At the moment, New Zealand typically follows the lead of the United Nations when applying sanctions -- which provides safety in numbers.
But it's also impossible to use the Security Council against Russia, which is one of its five permanent members -- they're all nuclear-armed and hold veto powers.
That's why Cabinet will consider advice on a Russian Sanctions Bill.
The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spoke to Susie Ferguson.
