The Minister of Education and his Ministry are being taken to court over the rights of intellectually disabled children to go to school.
The advocacy group IHC says the children are being discriminated against and its legal team is collecting evidence for a Human Rights Tribunal hearing.
It held a hui for families and teachers in Whang?rei yesterday - the first of many planned around the country.
Reporter Sam Olley spoke to some of those there.
