The former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has started his jail term after handing himself into police on Thursday (NZT).
He was sentenced to 15 months in jail for contempt of court on 29 June.
He'd failed to face a commission investigating corruption and state capture under his administration between 2009 and 2018.
Zuma attempted to defy the sentencing, but in what some have said was a surprise turn of events, he has now handed himself in to a corrections centre.
The charges and sentencing have been seen as a major test of the rule of law in post-Apartheid South Africa.
South Africa based freelance journalist Linda Givetash spoke to Susie Ferguson.
