This June just passed has been the hottest on record, with the average temperature for the month two degrees above average.
That's despite the polar blast of snow, and hail storms - temperature records were broken at 24 places around the country.
July is also looking to be more tropical than past years.
NIWA meteorologist Chris Brandolino spoke to Corin Dann.
