An immigration lawyer wants a fast track visa process for doctors and nurses wanting to come into the country, saying long delays are putting off the people most urgently needed in the battle against Covid-19.
Immigration reporter Gill Bonnett has more.
In a statement, the immigration minister Kris Faafoi says applications from doctors and nurses made before expressions of interest selections were suspended last year, met priority criteria for residence.
He said the Government is working through advice on when and how to re-open those selections, and will have decisions to announce soon.
He said while doctors and nurses wait for news they are likely to be eligible for further temporary visas.
