NASA is launching the largest and most powerful telescope ever built into space on Christmas Day NZT.
The James Webb telescope will capture the most detailed images of the cosmos we've ever seen.
Corin Dann spoke to NASA astrophysicist Tom Greene about the mission.
He said the first images and datasets should be released in about six to seven months time.
