The director of Te T?tai Hauora o Hine, the Centre for Women's Health Research at Victoria University, wants a less invasive cervical screening test rolled out as soon as possible.
The government has announced a $55 million funding boost to make the test available, but not until 2023.
Currently there are 400,000 New Zealanders who are not getting regular smear tests.
