New Zealand is preparing to send a Hercules with aid to Tonga today - provided it is safe.
The scale of the damage and need in the Pacific nation is still not clear, following Saturday's eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai volcano, and subsequent tsunami.
Communications with Tonga remain difficult - though the UN says a distress signal has been detected in an isolated, low-lying group of islands in Tonga, prompting concern for its inhabitants.
Power has been restored in large parts of Nuku'alofa, but there's urgent need for other necessities like water.
