Two University of Otago PhD genetics students have learned the sometimes-painful skill of wasp nest removal - all in the name of research aimed at eradicating the pest.
Josh Gilligan and Gemma McLaughlin have become popular figures in the Dunedin community, estimating they've removed about 50 nests for free over the last two years - mostly from residential properties.
But it was a hot, sting-laden process to begin with.
Gilligan spoke to Susie Ferguson.
